Games Blinking New!

I love computer role playing games of all flavors, but MMORPGs always stood out to me in particular. Ever since I played Ultima Online with my friends from school I have been searching for a similar experience, but nothing could compare. I enjoyed Lord of the rings online when it released, and dabbled in many other MMORPGs over the decades. I discovered classic Everquest in 2017 and got totally hooked. I also adore the early versions of final fantasy XI and Star wars galaxies.

Nowadays I mainly play Nintendo Switch with 1990s PC games sprinkled in. My laptop barely runs Monsters & Memories but the game looks amazing in 800x600 anyway!

Books Blinking New!

For fun, I am re-familiarizing myself with some books on MMORPGs and virtual worlds that I have read over the years. I plan to provide basic summaries and discussions of what I find interesting about them.

Play Between Worlds: Exploring Online Game Culture
by T.L. Taylor

Though mainly concerned with the blurring of online and offline life, the book also offers a firsthand experience in early EverQuest.

Communities of Play: Emergent Cultures in Multiplayer Games and Virtual Worlds
by Celia Pearce

Explores emergence of player behaviour that does not coincide with the intentions of game designers.
