The Great Tapestry 1-1
August 2025
The Great Tapestry of Eth-Ur is not a mere metaphor. It is the living, breathing essence of our existence and a vast, intricate webwork of interconnected realities in which every living thing is the unique strand of a greater whole. Our kin on the surface believe the world to be a singular, knowable place: the universe. Their purpose is to map its every corner, to understand its physical laws, and to build great works in its image. They thought that if one could only gather enough Knowledge about it, a perfect understanding of the universe would be revealed. To them, the world is a simple thing to be observed from a distance.
What our surface kin ignore is the fact that the act of observation is an act of participation. We are woven into the very fabric we study and our actions and perceptions are a part of the reality we are trying to describe. To truly understand the universe then, we cannot simply study individual threads, because real knowledge lies not in the things themselves but in the patterns that connect them. A single strand of wool tells you little, but the way it interlaces with a hundred others can reveal the form of a greater reality. We see this same principle in the cooperation of a hunting party, because the warrior's gaze, the healer's focused hand, and the ranger's silent step are not separate actions. They are woven together into a greater whole where the group is not just a collection of individuals, but a single, living being. This pattern, which links every living thing to every other, is the only enduring truth in a world of a thousand shifting realities.
The long descent of my people has led us not just to the core of the world, but to the edges of its reality. We found that the world is not one, but many. We therefore study these many realities, the multiverse, and try to understand how their truths and ours can coexist.
